I use fusion 360 at work for lathe work since the company didn’t want to spend the money for the lathe features in camworks. 400$ vs few thousand dollar programs I prefer fusion/hsm cam. I use solidworks and camworks cam at work. Some times I’ll just use the svg/dxf in solid works save then open the step file in fusion. I really just use that when dealing with larger svg/dxf files. I personally just pay the 400$ a year since it also includes hsm plug-in for solidworks. You can get around by combining posts and simple edits for tool changes. Some are kinda dumb no more rapids / tool changes. It’s always been clear some features while being tested for free would be moved to paid.Ĭurrent free version has all the features you need for majority of parts. įusion has always been free for makers with paid features. Most of not all you can get for a normal version of Linux CNC. Tormach machines are basically Linux CNC with there own gui with some of there own wizards added in. The down side for Linux CNC for most is not being able to use usb control boards. You run a special live kernel distro of Linux on a computer and a CNC controller using a parrel port To break out board or a Mesa card with ethernet. It is CNC controller software like Mach 3/4. ![]() Linux CNC isn’t a replacement for fusion.
